El Centro Perry y el Centro Regional de Estudios Estratégicos en Seguridad (CREES) de la Escuela Superior de Guerra de Colombia convocaron a más de 100 altos profesionales de la defensa y la seguridad de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Perú, Uruguay y Estados Unidos al “Seminario Regional Sudamericano de Contrarresto de Amenazas Transnacionales”. Este evento se está llevando a cabo del 9 al 11 de agosto de 2016 en Bogotá, Colombia. A través de una serie de conferencias de expertos y sesiones interactivas, los participantes en el seminario están examinando las amenazas planteadas por el terrorismo internacional, la delincuencia organizada transnacional, la ciberseguridad y las tecnologías emergentes, y debatiendo estrategias y políticas para contrarrestar estas amenazas en las Américas.

Colombian Vice Minister of Defense Aníbal Fernández de Soto and US Southern Command Deputy Military Commander Lieutenant General Joseph DiSalvo were the keynote speakers for the first day of the seminar. They both described the evolving threats from illicit networks to the Western Hemisphere that included diversified drug trafficking, illegal mining, human trafficking, money laundering, and cybersecurity and the scourge of corruption and impunity that empower terrorism and transnational crime. Both underscored the need for even more interagency and international cooperation to better understand, identify and counter illicit networks and trans-regional threats.
