With deep sadness, we acknowledge the passing of US Army Colonel (ret.) John "Jay" Cope, a visionary leader whose devotion, service, and brilliance helped shape our beloved William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies in its earliest years.

From February 3 to 7, 2025, the Perry Center, in partnership with the Guyana National Defence Institute, delivered its mobile Strategy and Defense Policy (SDPm) course in Georgetown, Guyana.

On January 23, Perry Center Director Dr. Paul J. Angelo presented the 2024 William J. Perry Award for Excellence in Security and Defense Education to Chief of Defense Brigadier General Werner Kioe A Sen in Paramaribo, Suriname. The Perry Award honors individuals and institutions whose sustained efforts in security and defense education have advanced cooperative approaches to security, promoted transparency, and strengthened institutional capacity across the Americas.

Professor Celina Realuyo, General (ret.) Carlos Rodriguez Arrieta, alumnus of the Perry Center, and Professor María Laura Patiño published a new article on “The Impact of Illicit Economies in the Context of Organized Crime in Ecuador” in the Tambara Digital Magazine of ESPE (University of the Armed Forces of Ecuador).

Under the auspices of US Embassy Santiago and the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile's (PUC-Chile) Law Science and Technology Program on "Truth and Democracy: Empowering Media Against Disinformation and Digital Violence" project, Professor Celina Realuyo participated in a series of workshops aimed at educating and empowering journalists, students, and key media stakeholders with the skills and knowledge to identify, assess, and counter disinformation and online violence in Chile.

From December 10-12, the Perry Center participated in the 2024 Caribbean Nations Security Conference (CANSEC) in Trinidad and Tobago. This year's conference gathered defense leaders from 16 nations under the theme "Strengthening Bonds, Securing Futures: United for Regional Security."

The last two installments of the 2024 Webinar Series were titled "Rebuilding Haiti: Pathways Out of Crisis" and "Combating Organized Crime: The Role of the Armed Forces in Ecuador."

From November 22 to 30, 2024, the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies, in partnership with the Metropolitan University of Asuncion (UMA), executed a comprehensive agenda of forums, workshops, and institutional visits to enhance regional cybersecurity knowledge and address strategic geopolitical challenges.

On December 11, 2024, Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo gave a presentation at a discussion organized by Chile's National Academy for Political and Strategic Studies (ANEPE) on global threats from the perspective of the United States.

On December 6, we welcomed Argentina’s Secretary of International Affairs for Defense Juan Battaleme.
