Ecuador is currently grappling with a severe surge in crime, violence, and the growing influence of organized gangs, largely driven by the drug trade. This has resulted in widespread insecurity, including frequent assassinations, extortion, and attacks on law enforcement. As a result, many Ecuadorians are living in fear, and the situation has become a major concern for both domestic and international stability. In response to escalating violence and the growing power of criminal gangs, Ecuador’s government declared a “war on gangs” in 2022, mobilizing the military and expanding police presence in high-crime areas. This declaration was part of a broader strategy to combat organized crime, restore public order, and curb the influence of drug cartels, though the country continues to face significant challenges in fully dismantling these criminal networks. This webinar will examine Ecuador’s current response from the perspectives of public policy, military doctrine and international law.

Certificates of participations will be sent to those who complete the webinar survey.
