87 participants from 28 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean are taking part in the residence phase of the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies’ Advanced Courses for the year of 2011. There are five courses this year which include Advanced Civil-Political-Military Relations and Democratic Leadership (ACPMR), Strategy and International Security (SIS), Governance, Governability and Security in the Americas (GGSA), Terrorism and Counterinsurgency (TCI), and Combating Transnational Organized Crime and Illicit Networks in the Americas (CTOC). Four of the courses include three-week in-person phases while CTOC includes a 2-week in-person phase. The participants will have completed a three-week online course prior to arrival, then will complete their time in Washington, DC, and will lastly return to their home countries and will have two months to write a 15-20 page research paper.
