On June 6 the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies welcomed its 8th Interagency Coordination and Combating Terrorism course (ICCT). With seventy-three participants from nineteen countries, this ICCT is one of the most diverse courses the Center has hosted, as the variety of professional backgrounds represented includes civilian officials from a variety of ministries and government offices, police and military officers, including several with special forces backgrounds, journalists, academics from civilian institutions and war colleges, embassy personnel, and staffs of legislators and non-governmental organizations.
Course Director Professor Boris Saavedra welcomed the incoming participants, as did other leaders from the Center, including the Director, Dr. Richard D. Downie, and both deans. A rigorous schedule has been established, as much material will be discussed. The breakout group format, which has served the Center’s participants so well, will be utilized to maximize the intellectual interactions and networking opportunities. The participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to attend, and the enthusiasm for the weeks ahead.
