The 2023 Webinar Series continued with the June 21 discussion on “Maritime Security in the South Atlantic: Perspectives from South America,” featuring guest speakers Marcelo Valença, Assistant Professor at the Brazilian Naval War College and Ariel González Levaggi, Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. WJPC professor Luis Bitencourt moderated the event which was attended by over 250 participants from 13 countries.
Both speakers shared their perspectives on security issues in the South Atlantic region including extra-regional powers, regimes, and institutions, and provided a comprehensive look at regional cooperation to promote maritime security and global diplomacy. They noted important changes in the strategic environment and their effects on the maritime perspectives of both countries.
The webinar was followed by a post-event discussion hosted and moderated by the WJPC Argentina Alumni chapter which allowed for a dynamic and diverse exchange among more than 50 participants from across Latin America.
