On October 29, 2024, Dr. William Godnick, WJPC Dean of Academics, presented his paper on “The Militarization of Public Security in Latin America: Challenges and Obstacles to US Security Cooperation,” in a panel during the three-day conference on Building Lasting Partnerships hosted by the Defense Security Cooperation University. Dr. Godnick presented together with panelists from Saudi Arabia, Uganda and Europe. His intervention focused on the challenges the Department of Defense faces in cooperating with partners in Latin America as their military forces assume greater roles in policing and other missions related to internal order maintenance exposing them to potential human rights challenges.
