On August 6, 2024, Professor Celina Realuyo spoke virtually on a panel titled “Organized Crime and Violence in Mexico: Considerations for Future Nearshoring Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)” hosted by University of California San Diego, the Institute of the Americas and the Wilson Center. Other panelists included Cecilia Farfan-Mendez, PhD, Alejandro Schtulmann, and Isaac Morales Tenorio. The panel examined Dr. Farfan-Mendez’ report titled “Organized Crime and Violence in Mexico: Considerations for Future Nearshoring” and discussed economic opportunities from moving manufacturing closer to the US and the possible security risks from criminal groups exploiting nearshoring in the cyber-physical world.
