Today the Perry Center welcomed a high-level delegation from Belize, led by Minister of National Defence and Border Security Florencio Marin Jr., for a full day of consultations focused on the implementation of a National Security Strategy and conceptualization of a National Defence Strategy. We congratulate Belize on the passage of its National Security Bill in July, which laid the foundation for these efforts. The Belizean delegation also included Ambassador Oliver del Cid, Director General of National Security; Rear Admiral John Borland, Chief of Defence Staff; Brigadier General Asariel Loria, Defence Forces Commander; and Rear Admiral Elton Bennett, Coast Guard Commandant – all Perry Center alumni! During the visit, the delegation met with Perry Center leadership and engaged with faculty in roundtable discussions. The Perry Center and the Government of Belize have a longstanding collaborative relationship, and the Center will continue to support its Belizean partners in the implementation of its National Security Strategy through education initiatives and key engagements.
