Harvey A. Schoonover is a Non-Resident Research Fellow for the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies at the National Defense University. Specializing in international security and regional defense studies, Mr. Schoonover's current research focuses on regional defense integration, political-military affairs, civil-military relations, and relations of the Global South within the context of strategic competition.

Professionally, Mr. Schoonover is a Department of Defense Civilian who currently works for US Southern Command in Doral, FL. He completed his Bachelor's degree (Political Science & Criminology) and first Master's degree (Political Science) from Florida Atlantic University. He completed his second Master's degree (Latin American & Caribbean Studies) from Florida International University. He is currently a PhD student pursuing a PhD in International Relations.
