From Feb 25 – 28, Dr. Fabiana Perera represented the Perry Center at a national workshop to strengthen gender equality at the national agencies in charge of counternarcotics efforts.
While attending the workshop which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Dr. Perera delivered a presentation on norms and rules and the inclusion of women in peace and security, and moderated a discussion on the role of women in combating crime. The workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Security, under the auspices of Canada and CICAD.
CICAD, the Inter-American Drug Abuse Commission, was established by the OAS in 1986. They are undertaking a two-year long project to advance the inclusion of women in counternarcotics efforts. The project includes a number of in-country national seminars (Costa Rica, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Argentina) followed by a regional seminar to be hosted in Costa Rica in 2020
