Between August 10 and 14, 2015, the Perry Center is convening 60 participants from 10 countries (Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Panama and the US) for a “Regional Seminar on Combating Transnational Organized Crime in the Americas” in Washington, DC. The seminar will analyze the defense and security threats transnational criminal organizations, like the Mexican cartels and Central American gangs, pose to the region through their illicit activities. These activities include drug trafficking, money laundering, arms trafficking, human smuggling, counterfeiting, and cybercrime. Participants will share their respective countries’ counter-crime strategies and discuss interagency and international cooperation to counter transnational organized crime in the Western Hemisphere.
