CHDS Assistant Professor Celina Realuyo was invited to speak at the first-ever Latin American Women in Business and Leadership Conference held on October 17–18 in Bogota, Colombia. The two-day event convened more than 350 women from the public, private, academic, and nonprofit sectors from across the Western Hemisphere. To kick off the forum, UN Women Executive Director and former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet addressed the audience via video link emphasizing that “gender equality must become a lived reality.” Speakers included current and former government ministers, business leaders, scientists, and entrepreneurs who addressed the impact of women in the public sector, the transformation of business by women leaders, female vs. male leadership styles, socioeconomic trends in the world, and women in the sciences. As one of only three Americans invited to speak at the forum, Professor Realuyo presented on the “Keys to Successful Leadership in a Globalized World,” highlighting the importance of preparation, patrons, presence, and performance to excel in any field.
