On May 9, 2012, the Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies had the honor of receiving a group from Mexico’s Colegio de Defensa Nacional (National Defense College – CDN) at National Defense University’s Abraham Lincoln Hall. CHDS Director Dr. Richard Downie, and Dr. Luis Bitencourt, Dean of Academics, welcomed the group headed by Major General Ernesto Aguilera Casados, Director of the CDN. The group of 53 students and faculty from the Masters Program was briefed about CHDS by Dr. Bitencourt. CHDS professors Dr. Patricia Escamilla-Hamm, Dr. Luis Kun, Prof. Kevin Newmeyer, Prof. Guillermo Pacheco, and Dr. Isidro Saavedra presented a panel on a range of homeland and national security issues. At the conclusion of the program, guests enjoyed a catered lunch with CHDS faculty. CHDS is honored to be included in CDN’s annual visits to the United States, an illustration of the friendship between the two institutions.
