Perry Center Honors Registrar at Retirement Ceremonony

In a retirement ceremony on July 13, 2017, the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies recognized Van Beall for his lifetime of public service. In appreciation for his contributions to the Center and the Department of Defense over the past 17 years, Mr. Beall was honored with the Civil Service Retirement Award and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency Career Civilian Service Award. Mr. Jeffrey Murphy, Acting Director of the Perry center, also presented Mr. Beall with a certificate conferring upon him the honorific of Distinguished Member Emeritus of the Perry Center.

Van Beall RetirementMr. Beall joined the Perry Center in July 2000 as Registrar and Chief of the Admissions Office. Throughout his 17 years at the Perry Center, Mr. Beall was a valued member of the leadership team who contributed to strategic planning, student management, and budgeting. Mr. Beall’s work during his long tenure at the Center was vital in in building and developing the Center’s mission and academic programs.

Prior to joining the Perry Center as a civilian, Mr. Beall served in the US Army. His previous assignments included: Command Language Program Manager at the 704th Military Intelligence Brigade; Special Operation Operator, Master Trainer, and Spanish Linguist/Voice Intercept Operator.

Deputy Director Murphy praised Mr. Beall for his “tireless professionalism and dedication to his job” while emphasizing his attention to detail. Various Perry Center faculty and staff noted Mr. Beall’s wacky light-hearted humor over his many years of service.

The Perry Center is honored to have had the pleasure of working with Van for the past 17 years, and we wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.
