Perry Center Professor Pat Paterson participated via video teleconference in the 10th Annual Miguel Grau International Humanitarian Law Conference in Lima, Peru. The annual event has been held since 2006 and is hosted by the Peruvian Ministry of Justice and Human Rights. This year’s event examined the importance of international humanitarian law treaties in the formulation of operational law. An estimated 60 participants from the Ministry of Justice, the attorney general, the armed forces and the national police attended. Guest speakers from Germany, Colombia, and the United States participated. Professor Paterson examined US policies on international humanitarian law using the case study of the US occupation of Iraq.
