In mid-July the Guatemalan Ministry of Defense hosted a 1.5-day long conference, part of the Ministry’s continuing implementation of the new defense management system (SIPLAGDE – Sistema Integrado de Planeamiento y Gestión de Defensa), which was designed with the support of the Defense Institution Reform Initiative and with the contributions of the Perry Center. The July conference consisted of a metrics seminar whose goal it was to present the metrics-based evaluation plan, and a Force Design workshop which supported the continuing professional development of officers who will be responsible for executing the several processes within SIPLAGDE. Perry Center Professor Dr. Salvador Raza supported and participated in the event, in support of DIRI’s objectives in Guatemala.
