Perry Center Professor Speaks at First International Seminar on Women in the Military

In honor of International Women’s Day, the Colombian Army hosted the first ever “International Seminar on Women in the Military” at the Casa Mata Infantry Club in Bogotá, Colombia, from March 8-10, 2016. At the opening ceremony, Army Chief General Alberto Mejía Ferrero deemed this seminar as an important sign of the transformation of the Colombian armed forces, as women continue to make strides professionally and come to positions on an equal footing with men in the institution. He also announced the creation of a Gender Policy Office Gender aimed at assisting female officers with success in their professional and personal lives, and signaled out Colonel María Cristina Barrios, appointed as his new Chief of Staff of the Army. At the seminar, Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo spoke on “The Keys to Leadership and Success in a Globalized World” before the over 200 female officers in attendance.
