On March 29, 2023, Perry Center professor Celina Realuyo spoke about money laundering and its effects on national security and defense in Latin America during a visit by the Perry Center to the Guatemalan Ministry of National Defense. She explained the role that illicit financial flows play in organized crime, terrorism and corruption and the latest rmeasures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. According to Global Financial Integrity, Latin American countries face a complex and challenging landscape of financial crimes that have made it one of the most violent regions in the world. She was accompanied by Dr. Boris Saavedra and Ms. Kara O’Ryan of the Perry Center.
