On August 8th, CHDS had the pleasure of hosting a visit with Dr. Jose Luis Prado Maillard, the Director of the Department of Law and Criminology at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) in Mexico. Dr. Prado had traveled to Washington, DC, to complete academic agreements with several local universities. Mr. Alfredo Ibarra, an alumnus of CHDS, serves as the coordinator for the security and defense programs within Dr. Prado’s Department and accompanied him on the visit.

During the meeting, Dr. Prado thanked CHDS for its support to UANL, which included teaching classes for students who had completed coursework in security and defense in Dr. Prado’s department. Dr. Prado emphasized that this type of support from CHDS is particularly important given the difficult circumstances in which Mexico finds itself.

Dr. Prado presented a commemorative plaque to CHDS Director Dr. Richard Downie, and also gave diplomas of recognition to Ambassador Cris Arcos and Professors Patricia Escamilla-Hamm, Jaime García, Michael Gold-Biss, and General Carlos Ospina for their participation in the academic program. Dr. Downie reiterated that CHDS would continue to support the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and reinforce the bonds of cooperation and friendship between institutions in Mexico and the United States.
