On May 4, 2021 Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo spoke on “Drug Trafficking and Transnational Organized Crime: Towards Criminal Governance? A US Perspective” organized by WJPC alumna Dr. Carolina Sancho with Dr. Raul Benitez from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. They discussed how transnational criminal organizations are operating their trafficking networks, adapting to the COVID-19 pandemic and threatening national security and the democratic institutions of governments in the Western Hemisphere. After the professors’ presentations, Chilean candidates to the Constituent Assembly Paola Berlin, Susana Hiplar, Cristian Monckeberg and Felipe Harboe offered their views of the threat from transnational organized crime in Chile and possible government responses.
