A Perry Center team visited Peru the week of November 11, 2019, for a series of academic engagements with institutional partners and the growing alumni community in Lima. Over the course of the week, professors Celina Realuyo and Boris Saavedra along with Kara O’Ryan from the Educational Outreach and Alumni office visited ESAN Graduate School of Business, the Navy War College and colleagues from the Strategic Leadership for Defense and Crisis Management Course (CEDEYAC), the Judicial Academy, and the Center for Advanced National Studies (CAEN).

Celina Realuyo gave a lecture to 110 participants on combating transnational organized crime in the Americas at the Judicial Academy, and Boris Saavedra lectured on cybersecurity and the role of the military to officials in the master’s program on maritime strategy at the Navy War College. Both professors were guest presenters at CAEN’s second annual international conference on security and defense, “CASEDE 2019,” which brought together 600 participants for two days of engaging lectures by a variety of national and international experts.

Additionally, over 100 WJPC graduates attended the alumni reunion held at CAEN on November 13. Kara O’Ryan spoke with those gathered about activities at the Perry Center and provided examples and ideas for maintaining a strong alumni network in Peru. Attendees included alumni from WJPC resident courses from the year 2000 to present, including students from the mobile Strategy and Defense Policy (SDPm) course in Lima, which concluded later that week.
