On January 26, the Perry Center held the webinar, “Armed Forces of the English-Speaking Caribbean: A Conversation with Dr. Sanjay Badri-Maharaj.”

Dr. Sanjay Badri Maharaj, author of the book Armed Forces of the English-Speaking Caribbean was interviewed by Perry Center professor Bill Godnick. The discussion covered the evolution of the region’s armed forces and how their military capabilities have served them in times of natural disasters and nationals security crises and identified persistent gaps that need to be addressed moving forward. The conversation also explored how the challenges of politics, corruption, organized crime, and extra-regional actors have an impact on long-term defense strategies.

This event was attended by over 230 participants from 31 countries and included simultaneous interpretation into Spanish allowing for a robust participation from throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.
