On July 20, the Perry Center hosted a webinar titled “Caribbean Maritime Security Strategy” which was attended by nearly 300 people across 39 countries. Guest speaker Lt. Col. Michael Jones, Executive Director of CARICOM IMPACS, provided a comprehensive look at current threats and challenges to maritime security. He shared examples of cooperation and collaborative efforts within the Caribbean, including IMPACS’ achievements as well as the unmasking of maritime crime trends. The discussion also focused on system-wide approaches to solutions, the extending and hardening of borders and targeted relations based on risk and interest. The event was kicked off by the Perry Center’s new Director, Dr. Paul Angelo, and was moderated by Professor of Practice Dr. Bill Godnick. The webinar offered simultaneous interpretation into Spanish allowing for robust guest participation.
