On November 6, the Perry Center had the privilege of hosting Colombia’s Minister of Defense Ivan Velasquez Gomez for his second visit to the Center. The Colombian delegation, including Minister Counselor Claudia Cuevas, was received by Perry Center Director Paul Angelo, Dean of Academic Affairs Scott Tollefson, and faculty members. Dr. Angelo presented Perry Center 2024 course offerings and thanked Minister Velasquez for the Colombian Navy’s co-sponsorship of the Center’s first Advanced Course in Maritime Security Policy, which will take place in Washington and Cartagena in May. The Perry Center recently welcomed a Colombian Navy Fulbright Scholar to support development of the course. Other topics discussed included climate change, humanitarian assistance, civil-military relations, international security, and current world events.
