On November 25, the Perry Center hosted a webinar on the dynamics of the autonomous Mapuche movements in Chile and Argentina. Two panelists, Dr. Patricio Navia, a Chilean Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University, and Mr. Fabian Calle, Senior Associate Consultant at Berenzstein, Argentina, who is a William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies graduate, shared their remarks on the subject. Dr. Navia commented on the recognition, land, and integration of the Mapuche, as well as issues of equity, socio-economics, and urbanization. Mr. Calle focused his views on the Argentina-Chile border area and Patagonia’s history of great interchange and conflict, tendencies, and the international financing supporting the movement. Dr. David Spencer, Associate Professor at the Perry Center, moderated the event.
