On Monday, November 28, the Perry Center received a delegation from the Guatemalan Army Education Command’s (COSEDE) Advanced Strategic Studies Course (CAEE). COSEDE Commander Brigadier General Byron Gutiérrez led the delegation which included 41 students. Director Mark Wilkins welcomed the group and briefly discussed the history, mission, and organization of the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies. The Director then answered questions from delegation participants about Perry Center resident courses and regional programs.

Dr. Boris Saavedra followed Director Wilkins’ remarks with a presentation on education and professional development for officials in the security and defense sectors in Latin America. Dr. Saavedra also briefly touched upon the future prospects of cyber security threats in the Americas. During COSEDE’s time in Washington, DC, the delegation will visit the Inter-American Defense College and various other Washington landmarks.
