CHDS in collaboration with the Mexican Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) conducted a week-long NationLab event from June 11 through 15 in Mexico to explore interagency response to major natural disasters. The event was hosted by the Escuela Superior de Guerra in Mexico City and included more than 40 Mexican general officers and several senior-level civilians from the Mexican government. The US team included representatives of US Northern Command, the US Department of State, USAID/OFDA, FEMA, the National Guard, and the US Embassy in Mexico City. The highly successful event centered on a major earthquake and tsunami affecting the region of Baja California and Southern California. Participants developed strategic responses to issues arising from the complex disaster. The game structure encouraged interagency and bi-national information sharing among the groups.
