On Friday, December 10, 2021, Perry Center Director, LTG (ret) Frederick Rudesheim presented Colonel Rob Alvaro with the Legion of Merit medal. Colonel Alvaro is retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service to the United States Army. A native of Puerto Rico, Rob continued a tradition of service following multiple generations of family members who have served in the Army since 1901.

Colonel Alvaro began his Army career as an infantryman, serving with the 10th Mountain Division, completing company command in the 82nd Airborne Division, and serving in the 2nd Infantry Division. Colonel Alvaro subsequently transitioned to become a specialist in foreign affairs, serving in Argentina, Nicaragua, Iraq, Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy, US Southern Command, and Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation.

The Perry Center was fortunate to have Colonel Alvaro assigned to the organization twice. He made the organization stronger through his service and we wish him well.
