On Tuesday, March 3, the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies hosted the Hemispheric Forum “Cuba’s Continuing Regional Influence”. The event featured subject matter experts from academia, Cuban dissidents, and US policymakers as they explored the question of how the Island maintained its disproportional impact in the region. Speakers expanded on Cuban diplomacy, cooperation, and intelligence gathering activities, and US Policy towards Cuba across different administrations. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Cuba and Venezuela, Ms. Carrie Filipetti, closed the forum with remarks on Cuba’s influence across the region. The event was attended by ranking individuals in the civilian and military community and featured participation by viewers of the event livestream in from twenty countries throughout the Hemisphere.
