On May 18, 2021, the Perry Center contributed to the development of a seminar on defense white papers organized by the Ministry of Defense of the Dominican Republic, which is in the process of developing its own white paper. The opening remarks of the seminar were given by Mr. Robert Thomas, Charge d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo; the Minister of Foreign Relations Roberto Martínez and the Minister of Defense Lieutenant General Carlos Díaz. Perry Center Director Frederick Rudesheim opened the academic session where professors William Godnick and Luis Bitencourt spoke on the different thematic aspects and the process of preparing the white paper. The event was broadcast by Zoom with the participation of more than 440 participants from various Dominican institutions. In the coming months, the Perry Center will be organizing work sessions with its Dominican partners to deepen more on issues of importance for the completion of the white paper in their country.
