On October 6, Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo guest lectured on “Combating Transnational Organized Crime in the Americas in the Age of COVID-19” at the Colombian Navy’s International Center for Maritime Investigation and Analysis against Drug Trafficking (Centro Internacional Marítimo de Investigación y Análisis Contra el Narcotráfico – CIMCON) for 73 Colombian, Mexican, Peruvian and Spanish naval officers and civilians. The session discussed how criminal groups are adapting to the pandemic and how the protracted health and economic crisis will consume governments’ attention and resources and allow criminal groups to expand their illicit activities and recruit youth at risk in marginalized communities.
