On January 17, 2024 Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo was interviewed by Dario Mizrahi of DNews on the terrorist threat from Iran and Hezbollah in the Americas as the armed conflict in the Middle East with Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis intensifies. She noted that the suspected Hezbollah plots to attack Jewish targets in Brazil and in Argentina thwarted by law enforcement in December demonstrate the threat of terrorism remains real. She shared regional security officials’ concern that the call for global jihad and border insecurity with massive migration could allow for terrorists to move, plan and realize terrorist attacks in the Americas. She called for enhanced international counterterrorism, counter crime and intelligence cooperation to detect, dismantle and deter terrorist networks in the region.
