AMB Haney discussing his career with NDU Young Professionals and WJPC interns

On Monday, March 20, 2017, the Honorable Stafford Fitzgerald Haney, the United States Ambassador to Costa Rica, visited the Perry Center. In a meeting with Perry Center leadership and faculty, Ambassador Haney gave updates on the current security environment in Costa Rica, then participated in a review of recent Perry Center initiatives in the country, including a recent regional human rights dialogue co-hosted by the Perry Center and the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights.

Later, Ambassador Haney met with the Perry Center interns and members of the National Defense University Young Professionals Society to speak candidly about his career, United States goals and objectives in Costa Rica, and the challenges faced by both countries. He fielded questions about both his own professional experiences and the responsibilities of working in a senior diplomatic position. Prior to his posting in Costa Rica, Ambassador Haney had a distinguished career in the private sector as an international businessman with many years of experience in senior-level marketing, finance, and manufacturing positions throughout the Americas.
