The William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies and the Regional Security System is hosting 80 defense and security professionals for a “Caribbean Regional Seminar on Countering Transregional-Transnational Threat Networks” seminar on March 21-23, 2017, in Bridgetown, Barbados. Colonel Glyne Grannum, Chief of Staff, Barbados Defence Force, Captain Errington Shurland, RSS Director, and Brigadier General Todd McCubbin, US Southern Command Deputy Director of Operations, and Perry Center Director Mark Wilkins spoke on security threats to the region and future defense and security challenges on the first day.

Through a series of expert lectures and interactive panel presentations, seminar participants are focusing on international terrorism, transnational organized crime, cybersecurity and unmanned systems, external actors and women in peace and security. They are also examining national, regional and international strategies and policies to counter these threats. Seminar participants, of whom half are Perry Center alumni, represent Antigua and Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US.
