On November 30, 2021, Perry Center Professor Celina Realuyo attended the first ‘Orión’ Summit of Defense Ministers with the participation of 40 countries, a meeting intended to continue deepening multinational initiatives to address the problems that drug trafficking has generated in transnational security. The summit was inaugurated by Vice President and Chancellor Dr. Marta Lucia Ramirez and the Minister of Defense Dr. Diego Molano Aponte. Professor Realuyo spoke on “The Convergence of Transnational Threats in the Maritime Domain.” The Orion campaign is the largest multilateral operation against drug trafficking in history and is now in its eighth version, with significant impact on the production and trafficking of 181 tons of cocaine.
