On March 15, we welcomed back to the Perry Center former Deputy Director and Chief of Staff Jeffrey Murphy for a special award presentation: Jeffrey J. Murphy was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service as Deputy Director of the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies from March 2015 to June 2023. The medal was presented by Perry Center Director Dr. Paul J. Angelo.

During his time at the Perry Center, Jeffrey Murphy oversaw all the Center’s programmatic, budgetary, personnel, procurement, protocol, management, and contracting activities and served as Acting Director for prolonged periods in 2017, 2018, and 2022. His administrative and managerial contributions to the Center directly enabled the education of more than 2,000 security and defense professionals from at least thirty-two countries, helping advance the Western Hemisphere’s commitment to democratic governance and positive civil-military relations. Congratulations, Jeff!
