On July 14, 2026, the William J. Perry Center for Hemispheric Defense Studies welcomed 53 international fellows from the US Air War College’s Master of Arts program as part of their academic visit to Washington, DC, and in advance of their engagement with US Southern Command.
Representing Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and other partner nations, the fellows received an overview of the Perry Center’s mission, programs, and role in advancing civilian-led defense education across the Western Hemisphere. The visit also included a discussion of the US National Security Strategy (NSS) and National Defense Strategy (NDS), providing participants with insight into the strategic framework that guides U.S. defense policy and international security cooperation.
Dean of Academic Affairs Dr. William Godnick delivered the organizational briefing and strategic overview, while Professor of Practice Eric Driggs presented on the similarities and differences between the air and maritime domains. The presentations encouraged discussion on joint operations, strategic planning, and the importance of interoperability in addressing today’s complex security challenges.
The visit reflects the Perry Center’s ongoing commitment to supporting professional military education through engagement with partner institutions and international military leaders. By fostering dialogue on strategic concepts and defense priorities, the Center continues to strengthen regional cooperation, promote mutual understanding, and build enduring professional relationships across the hemisphere.
